3-Star Tight End Luke Deal Signs With Auburn

The Tigers will need to replace Chandler Cox in 2019 and Deal just might be the man for the job.
One of the biggest recruiting victories the Tigers won happened early this cycle when Auburn landed 3* TE Luke Deal. The Greenwood, SC native held offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and a host of others. He took official visits to Auburn, NC State, Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame in the spring before making his decision. He also frequently visited Clemson’s campus. Deal was as highly a sought after tight end prospect as you can find in this class. He chose Auburn.
Now, he’s officially an Auburn Tiger.
Deal is a talented athlete who played all over the field for Emerald including some action as a Wildcat QB. He’s not gonna take many passes 60+ yards but he’s quick enough to get some separation to be effective in the passing game. He’s also got good hands and long arms making him an ideal redzone target.
But where Deal thrives is as a blocker. He’s powerful at the point of attack and loves to finish. Deal already has experience lining up in that 3-back spot which makes him an ideal candidate to possibly replace Chandler Cox. He will enroll early and I would not at all be surprised to see him start this fall at the H-back position. To me he’s the exact type of player Auburn should be using in that spot. Someone who can come across on Split Zone action as a fullback, handle defensive ends when lined up as an inline tight end and split out wide to take advantage of matchups with linebackers or safeties. It will be interesting to see how Auburn uses him in 2019.
War Eagle Luke!
