NumerAUlogy — 51 Days

NCAA Football: Arkansas at Auburn
John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Walk-on linebacker Barton Lester was in the right place when Jordyn Peters did Jordyn Peters things

Over the years, we’ve done different countdowns to kickoff (or tipoff). This year, we’re putting a twist on the classic “Best Auburn Player to Ever Wear Each Number” list. Football is all about lighting up the scoreboard in 2021, so let’s take a walk down memory lane and review the last time a player in each uniform number put up points.

#51 — Barton Lester, LB

Game — Auburn vs. Arkansas, October 3, 2020

I’ve already said all I want to say about this game, but I’ll be damned if I’m not going to enjoy this play. This was Jordyn Peters doing what Jordyn Peters does.

In truth, any one of about 5 players could have jumped on that ball. It even appears like Barton Lester, a walk-on linebacker from Montgomery who originally began his football career at the Air Force Academy, maybe even steals it away from a teammate. He was in the right place at the right time. The man who made this play happen is the guy with the reverse of Lester’s number. This was Peters’s 4th punt block of his career, and this came two weeks after he foiled a fake punt by Kentucky. God bless Jordyn Peters.

Lester is still on the roster and still wearing #51 as far as we know. Here’s hoping he grabs another touchdown in 2021.
