A look at the newcomers numbers and measurements

There’s been a lot of new faces added to Auburn’s roster this off-season. After some portal attrition, Auburn ended up signing a 16 man class in 2021 of prep and JUCO prospects. They then bolstered that class with 9 additions out of the transfer portal. Until yesterday, Auburn’s 2021 online roster only included the members of the 2021 class that early enrolled this spring. Now every signee and transfer is listed with their number (well most) and their official measurements. Here’s a breakdown on Auburn’s newcomers

2021 Signees

  • #3 WR Tar’Varish Dawson Jr. | 5’10” | 161 lbs
  • #15 CB A.D. Diamond | 6’0” | 153 lbs
  • #26 S Cayden Bridges | 6’2” | 181 lbs
  • #27 RB Jarquez Hunter | 5’10” | 202 lbs
  • #33 LB Joko Willis | 6’3” | 196 lbs
  • #48 DL Marquis Robinson | 6’3” | 310 lbs
  • #58 DL Tobechi Okoli | 6’5” | 252 lbs
  • #69 OL Colby Smith | 6’8” | 314 lbs
  • #91 DL Ian Mathews | 6’4” | 267 lbs
  • EDGE Dylan Brooks | 6’4” | 227 lbs
  • CB Ro Torrence | 6’3” | 195 lbs

I was interested to see how the JUCO players would be classified. Joko Willis is listed as a redshirt freshman, confirming he has four years of eligibility remaining. Ro Torrence, on the other hand, is listed as a sophomore giving him three years left to play.

The second thing I noted was that Dawson, Diamond, and Willis will be spending a lot of quality time with Jeff Pittman and his staff this fall. I have high hopes for all three players but they are gonna need to pack on some more muscle before being ready to step on the field with SEC athletes.

I am a little surprised Brooks doesn’t have a number listed yet but I wouldn’t read anything into it. I was also a little surprised that he was only 227 lbs. He’s someone that can easily play at 250 without losing any of his explosiveness.

Interestingly, 3-star S Juwon Gaston is not officially listed on Auburn’s 2021 roster. It could simply mean he had some extra work to do academically before enrolling. However, it’s definitely something to monitor over the next month.

Transfers

  • #1 QB TJ Finley | 6’7” | 246 lbs | Sophomore
  • #1 S Donovan Kaufman | 5’10” | 200 lbs | RS Freshman
  • #5 CB Dreshun Miller | 6’2” | 194 lbs | Senior
  • #50 DL Marcus Harris | 6’2” | 279 lbs | Sophomore
  • #53 EDGE Eku Leota | 6’4” | 250 lbs | Junior
  • #93 DL Tony Fair | 6’1” | 330 lbs | Senior
  • RB Jordon Ingram | 6’1” | 199 lbs | RS Freshman
  • S Bydarrius Knighten | 6’1” | 201 lbs | Senior

First off, TJ Finley is a very large man. Yes we technically knew that already but it really jumps out when reading through the roster. He’s a big dude with a big arm who will be working to push Bo this fall.

I was very happy to see Fair down to 330 pounds. He reportedly showed up VERY large earlier this summer so if that number is accurate it means he’s been putting in the work to get in shape for this fall. He’s a crucial piece to this defense in 2021.

Former 5-star Demetris Robertson was unsurprisingly not listed. He committed just last week so I don’t believe he’s made it to campus yet. I am really hoping his commitment tweet was a preview of what number he plans to wear for the Tigers.

War Eagle!
