Mid-Week Round-Up: Tech and Wofford

Georgia Tech @ #16 Auburn

  • Tuesday: 6-2 L

Wofford @ #16 Auburn

  • Wednesday: 4-3 L

We will just bunch these 2 together since both games were just about as fun as yesterday was for sports fans. In the Tech game, Brooks Fuller was good for the most part but never really looked comfortable against a solid Tech lineup and was only able to go 2 innings and giving up 3 runs on 4 hits with a walk and a strikeout. Following Brooks, the trio of Richard Fitts, Carson Skipper and Mason Barnett would come in and each gave up a run but limited the damage that Tech can bring as much as the could. The truly concerning part for Auburn was at the plate, where the Tigers took 10 strikeouts to the Tech staff and, while able to draw 8 walks, only mustered 4 hits and left 10 runners on base.

In game 2 of the mid-week, Auburn hosted a solid Wofford team that entered Plainsman Park 13-3 on the year and looked for the upset. On the mound Trace Bright just never seemed to find the command we have seen him have early this season and gave up all 4 of the Wofford runs on the night as he started the 3rd inning but was not able to record an out during the 3rd. Hayden Mullins, Seb Thomas and Ryan Watson finished the game and held the Terriers at bay. At the plate, however, the Tigers struggled to bring men around as they only struck out 6 times on the night while collecting 9 hits, but left 12 runners on the pond and couldn’t push across runs until the 8th inning. Couple that with the news that no fans will be allowed in to see any SEC baseball until the end of the month and it was a concerning two nights from every angle for a bunch of different reasons.

On Deck

So that makes that pretty cut and dry. In case you're wondering, that means the Texas A&M, @ Missouri and @ Alabama series have been cancelled along with a midweek game against Alabama State. Again, that's so far. So for now, the next time we will see the Tigers will be March 31st against UAB. So until then, stay safe, wash your hands and limit contact with others. And don't panic.
