26 Days to Tip-Off - Bryce Brown

HobNob Auburn

At #26, we look back at freshman Bryce Brown putting on a 3-point shooting display one night in Fayetteville!

Today at #26, we feature a young Bryce Brown who had his best game of his freshman season. Auburn came into this game on a 7 game losing streak following their wins over Kentucky and Alabama in January. Bryce had a pair of games earlier in the season with 6 3-pointers made but he made more than 6 on this night and the Tigers needed every one of them to pull off their only SEC road win of the 2015-2016 season.

Total Points: 27

Date: February 17, 2016

Opponent: at Arkansas

Final Score: Auburn 90 Arkansas 86

Bryce’s stat line was pretty simple in this one, 9-18 from the field and 9-14 from 3-point range. The 9 3s that night are the most Bryce made in 1 game in his Auburn career and 1 off the Auburn single game record set by Lance Weems in 1996.

As we learned over Bryce’s 4 years at Auburn, if he was on early, he could do a lot of damage. Bryce made his first 2 3-point attempts of the night in the game’s first 2 12 minutes. Bryce hit his 3rd 3-pointer 2 12 minutes later which gave Auburn a 16-13 lead. Bryce would hit his 4th 3-pointer midway through the 1st half to give Auburn a 30-26 lead. A 5th 3-pointer with 5 minutes left in the 1st half put Auburn back in front 39-38. With 1:45 left, Bryce hit his 6th 3 of the game tying the game at 46 apiece, which was the halftime score. Bryce matched his career high for 3s in a game in the 1st half with 6.

The 2nd half didn’t start well for Auburn as the Hogs built a 9 point lead with 14 minutes lead. Over the next 6 minutes, Auburn would stay in the game by getting points in the paint including dunks from Horace Spencer and Cinmeon Bowers. Bryce hit his 7th 3 of the game and 1st of the 2nd half with 7:22 left to make it 71-67 Arkansas. It was a patented 3 off an offensive rebound that we came to see so much from him. Two possessions later, Bryce would hit his 8th 3 of the game, a 3 that made it 73-70 Hogs with 6:11 left. Arkansas would hold the lead until T.J. Lang made back to back 3-pointers with under 3 minutes left to put Auburn up for good. Lang made 5 3s himself in this game. With the score 83-81 Auburn, Bryce would hit his 9th and final 3-pointer of the game with 1:16 left. Cinmeon Bowers made 4 free throws in the final minute and Auburn picked up one of its best wins of the season that night in Fayetteville. If you watch the highlights from this game, it was truly a team effort. Bryce had a big night, but so did several others on the team.

Tomorrow we reach the halfway point in our series as we go back to the SEC Tournament for the last of our 27 point games.
