As we continue our march to kickoff, we take a look at the top 100 recruits to sign with Auburn of all-time*. The rankings are based on 247’s composite recruit rankings, which unfortunately only date back to 2000.

THE RECRUIT

Ole No. 1 arrives onto the countdown today as we hit FIVE WEEKS from kickoff. It’s wild that at this time five weeks from now, we’ll be getting ready to brave a gameday featuring a new quarterback in a huge neutral site game against the Ducks. Devin Aromashodu was familiar with a huge opening game in a strange place, as that’s where his Auburn career started. However, he was a big prep star — the 10th-best receiver in the nation — and he was part of a Florida pipeline to Auburn.

After visiting for the 2001 Iron Bowl (gross), he apparently decided that the Tigers needed some help at receiver, so he jumped on board on National Signing Day three months later.

THE PLAYER

Aromashodu’s first catch as a college player came at USC on Labor Day Weekend in 2002 on a 43-yard reception, but he wouldn’t have more than 2 catches in a single game as a freshman or sophomore. His best day in 2002 or 2003 came in the loss to Arkansas, where he caught 2 balls for 61 yards and a score. However, he’d become a big target for Jason Campbell in 2004.

As the Tigers went in the Arkansas game that season undefeated, the team was riding high and took full advantage of a frothed-up crowd against the overmatched Razorbacks. On just the third play of the game, Aromashodu would take one of the signature moments of his career.

In 2005, he was still a major target for Brandon Cox, and he had his best season as a receiver, culminating in a career-high for yardage in Athens against Georgia, with the biggest catch of his life.

He’d finish his Auburn career with 71 catches for 1,333 yards and 9 touchdowns before getting drafted by the Miami Dolphins. Aromashodu failed to make the opening day roster and bounced around the NFL before finally getting his footing with Chicago in 2009, where he made a big impact catching passes from Jay Cutler.

Aromashodu gathered 78 catches for 1,193 yards and 5 touchdowns in his time in the NFL. He finished his career with the Bears as he was let go before the 2013 season.
