We are now just under two weeks away until kickoff against Georgia Southern, but Auburn is still looking ahead to build toward its future with news of a significant commitment from last Thursday.
Matthew Hill, a 4-star wide receiver from Snellville, Georgia, committed to the Tigers late last week. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound receiver selected Auburn over South Carolina and Alabama, and will be coming to the Plains with all-purpose skills as a receiver, rusher and kick returner.
Coach Kodi Burns played a vital role in Hill’s recruitment to Auburn, as the Tigers now have two receivers committed for the 2018 class. Hill joins Hoover 3-star Shedrick Jackson, and the Auburn coaching staff are looking to eventually add a couple more receivers to the class, as well.
With Hill’s commitment, Auburn is now ranked No. 29 in the 247sports team rankings with 12 total commits already on the board for Coach Gus Malzahn.
Looking ahead, Auburn’s top-rated recruiting target, QB Justin Fields, was just named the new consensus No. 1 prospect in the country by 247sports. His recruitment will be interesting to watch, as Auburn is still most certainly in the mix to land the top dual-threat quarterback, but I wouldn’t expect to hear his college decision until after his senior season and closer to signing day.
In-state running back, Asa Martin, is planning commit to a school on Thursday, and will be choosing between Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Clemson. The 4-star back from Decatur, Alabama, looks to be leaning toward the two in-state powerhouses at this point. Whoever lands this kid will be getting the top running back in the state, so keep an eye out for this one.
