NCAA Football: Auburn at Mississippi
Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

Well you already knew who it was

Over the years, we’ve done different countdowns to kickoff (or tipoff). This year, we’re putting a twist on the classic “Best Auburn Player to Ever Wear Each Number” list. Football is all about lighting up the scoreboard in 2021, so let’s take a walk down memory lane and review the last time a player in each uniform number put up points.

#18 — Seth Williams, WR

Game — Auburn vs Mississippi, October 24, 2020

To be honest, the sad thing is that Seth’s last score was in October.

This game was an absolute dog-fight the whole way. I don’t think any team ever led by more than one score. After getting a defensive stop, Auburn trailed 27-28 with time ticking away. Then Bo Nix showed every bit of the arm talent we know he has, and Seth Williams did the rest.

You have to keep watching, because technically Seth’s last score in an Auburn uniform was the 2-point conversion. That play was the exact same as Auburn’s two-pointer in the 2019 Iron Bowl, which is straight out of the EA Sports NCAA 14 playbook.

In fact, this same play is going to be on this list twice. That’s called foreshadowing.

#18 has a long history at Auburn, especially as worn by great receivers. It belonged to Alexander Wright, Thomas Bailey, Robert Baker (before he switched to #21), Kodi Burns, and Sammie Coates before it belonged to Seth Williams. But now it belongs to freshman quarterback Dematrius Davis. Go get em Double-D
