Auburn Lands 4-star RB Damari Alston!

Tigers snag one of the more physical backs in the 2022 class.

Big Cat Weekend started with a bang. Auburn’s biggest recruiting event is underway this afternoon and one of the attendees, 4-star RB Damari Alston, just announced his commitment. He’s going to be an Auburn Tiger.

Alston has a lengthy offer list but trimmed it down to a final 3 of Auburn, LSU, and Northwestern. He flirted with heavily with UNC and Penn State as well but both of those programs filled their RB room very quickly. As for Auburn, Alston has always been on their radar but it appeared both sides were headed opposite ways earlier this cycle. But a midweek trip in June changed things for both sides and now the powerful back out of Atlanta is headed to the Plains.

Scouting Report

Alston is a thickly built, no nonsense back who thrives on contact. He’s not going to wow anyone with impressive athletic feats or elite breakaway speed, instead he’s just gonna bounce off three would be tacklers to pick up another first down or put six points on the board. Alston’s combination of vision, balance, and lateral quickness makes him an ideal fit for Auburn’s new scheme. I have a feeling he will very quickly become a fan favorite when he arrives on campus.

The Class

Auburn’s 2022 offensive class is starting to take shape. Alston joins Holden Geriner, Micah Riley-Ducker, and Jay Fair to give the Tigers four quality offensive skill players in the 2022 class. Obviously there’s still a massive hole up front on the offensive line but this is a solid quartet of athletes to build your class around on that side of the ball.

Two more top targets have set decision dates for the near future with 4-star DL Caden Story announcing on August 1st and 3-star S Ja’Kobi Albert committing August 4th. However, it would not shock me if another name or two popped in the coming days especially with Big Cat Weekend underway.

Auburn fans have had to be painfully patient this cycle but I think that patience is about to start to pay off.
