NumerAUlogy — 84 Days

Auburn v Arkansas

We will watch one clip of this game and that is all

Over the years, we’ve done different countdowns to kickoff (or tipoff). This year, we’re putting a twist on the classic “Best Auburn Player to Ever Wear Each Number” list. Football is all about lighting up the scoreboard in 2021, so let’s take a walk down memory lane and review the last time a player in each uniform number put up points.

#84 - Montez Billings, WR

Game - Auburn @ LSU, October 20, 2007

The 2007 team wasn’t really bad. They just didn’t have a lot of games where they really put it all together. Honestly the two best games they played all year were on the road against the two of the best teams on the schedule. One was an out-of-nowhere upset of Florida by a team that had previously lost to South Florida and Mississippi State. The other was by a team that hadn’t lost since that Mississippi State game, and was in Baton Rouge against the eventual national champions.

Auburn’s first drive of the game was near perfect. On the 8th play, Brandon Cox showed some rare mobility:

Aaaaand that’s all I’m going to say about that game. TYVM.

There was a while there during the 2000s that 84 was a more common number for wide receivers to pick simply because it was what Vikings-era Randy Moss made cool. Since then it’s belonged to a lot of walk-ons, and even a few backup kickers. The current owner is walk-on wide receiver and starting holder Jackson McFadden. I’d be willing to bet there’s a better chance of him being involved in a score as a holder than as a wide receiver, but hey, you never know!
