An important late addition to Auburn’s 2021 signing class.
Offensive tackle recruiting has been a blackhole for Auburn since the 2017 signing class. Only two players from the high school ranks over the past four signing classes were listed as an offensive tackle by 247sports: Justin Osborne and Kameron Stutts. Osborne has since transferred while Stutts has slid inside to guard.
So while Colby Smith isn’t the highest ranked recruit in Auburn’s class, he’s absolutely one of the most important. The Tigers need to break this cycle of having to rely on transfers or former defensive lineman to field the OT position. To do so you have to start landing talented OT prospects from the prep ranks. 3-star Colby Smith signing is a big first step towards doing just that.

Adding a MASSIVE offensive tackle to the OL room. pic.twitter.com/9ohyLOCTuj
Long arms and lengthy frame with room to add more weight. Not a natural bender but shows decent flexibility. Good feet that he keeps moving in his blocks with good leg drive. Needs to show more consistency in delivering the initial punch instead of waiting to engage the defender. Projects as multi-year Power 5 starter and third-day NFL draft selection.
War Eagle Colby!
