Auburn visits the Naval Academy and improves to 2-0 on the season!

Auburn got the opportunity to spend some time on the campus of the United States Naval Academy as the Tigers headed to Annapolis to face Davidson out of the Atlantic 10.

The Tigers off to a great start in this one starting the game on a 12-2 run. The Tigers scored the first 7 on the night as Danjel Purifoy’s layup got Auburn on the board before Isaac Okoro knocked down his first 3 of the game. 2 possessions later, Okoro got to the paint to give Auburn a 7-0 lead.

Auburn built a 13 point lead midway through the first half, 23-10, after 2 free throws from Austin Wiley. Davidson would cut Auburn’s lead to 7 but Okoro continued his impressive performance with this tough shot.

Davidson would pull within 1 with 4:30 left in the half but Danjel Purifoy’s 3 stopped the Wildcats run. Auburn would lead 37-35 at halftime led by 11 from Okoro.
The Tigers started the second half as well they started the game with another 7-0. Another 3 from Purifoy and buckets from Samir Doughty and J’Von McCormick gave Auburn a 44-35 lead. Auburn regained their 13 point lead, the largest of the game, with a 3-point play from Purifoy, 49-36, with 15 minutes to go. Auburn would continue to hold around a 7-12 point lead throughout most of the 2nd half but Davidson would make a run.
The lead was down to 4 with 6 minutes left, 63-59, but Okoro’s only bucket of the 2nd half put Auburn back up by 6.
With 3 minutes to go, it was Anfernee McLemore who would put the finishing touches on Davidson. A blocked shot led to a fastbreak layup from McCormick to put Auburn up 69-61 and then on the next possession, J’Von would repay the favor, throwing an alley oop to McLemore as Auburn went back up by 10, 71-61 with 2:15 to go. Davidson would get within 6 in the final minute but McLemore’s layup would seal it as Auburn pulled out a 10 point win at the Naval Academy against Davidson.
Isaac Okoro had 16 points to lead Auburn. Danjel Purifoy scored 14 points and also had 6 rebounds. Anfernee McLemore had 12 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks. Samir Doughty and J’Von McCormick each added 11 points.
