Grant Calcaterra will finish his college career on the Plains!

In a surprise move earlier this afternoon, the Tigers were able to land an unexpected and hugely exciting transfer from Oklahoma. Tight end Grant Calcaterra will spend next season on the Plains as he makes the move from Norman, where he was a multi-year All-Big 12 performer.

Calcaterra was the victim of multiple concussions, and his last game came against Kansas in October of 2019. This past August he said that he was going to finish his football career at a location other than Oklahoma, but he bore no ill will toward the Sooners and even thanked them in his transfer tweet (above).

As a freshman in 2017, Calcaterra played in 5 games with 10 catches for 162 yards and 3 touchdowns before a first-team All-Big 12 season as a sophomore. Pairing with Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray, Calcaterra caught 26 passes for 396 yards and 6 touchdowns as the Sooners reached the College Football Playoff.

To say the guy’s got some talent is an understatement.

If you’re wondering how this might have happened, you’re probably familiar with the father of this kid. Auburn offensive coordinator Chad Morris’ son, Chandler, is a freshman quarterback at Oklahoma, and likely helped his dad know about the transfer target.

Obviously, this won’t take affect until next season, but the Auburn tight end room is about to get extremely talented. With J.J. Pegues, Brandon Frazier, and Luke Deal already in the mix, Calcaterra just adds to a beefy and skilled group at the end of the line.
