We close 2017 and the non-conference schedule with a 21 point win over the Big Red.
December 30, 2017 - Auburn Arena
Today’s countdown piece features the final tuneup before SEC play at home against Cornell. Auburn entered this game 11-1 and looked to pick up their 10th straight victory.
The visitors from New York hung in there early before a 12-2 run gave Auburn it’s first double digit advantage of the game. Cornell would cut it to 4 before a pair of 3s from Malik Dunbar and Davion Mitchell stalled the run. Auburn led 47-35 at halftime.
Auburn’s lead ballooned over 20 for the first time 4 minutes into the 2nd half on a 3-pointer by Bryce Brown to put Auburn up 69-47. It was part of a 12-0 run which gave Auburn a 29 point led. Brown and Chuma Okeke played big roles in putting this game out of reach in the 2nd half.
The run was part of a bigger 27-4 run as Auburn would go on to build a 39 point lead, 88-49 with 9 minutes to go. Auburn would play out the last 9 minutes and the Big Red would make the final margin 21 but the final score is much closer than how the game went.
Here are the highlights!
With the non-conference season over at 12-1, it’s time to get serious starting with tomorrow’s entry.
