Jared Harper loved playing UAB throughout his career.
December 3, 2016 - Bartow Arena: Birmingham
Auburn traveled to Bartow Arena for the first time since 1998 to take on in-state rival UAB.
Jared Harper loved playing UAB. In 3 games against the Blazers, Jared averaged 24.3 PPG including his career high 31 point game during the 2018-2019 season that we’ll talk about in the coming weeks.
3-point shooting is what kept Auburn in this game in the first half as the Tigers hit 8 of them in the first half. Harper was responsible for 5 of those as he scored 15 of his career-high 21 in the first half. Bryce Brown, T.J. Lang and Danjel Purifoy all hit 3s in the first half as the Blazers led this game 37-33 at halftime.
Purifoy would pick up the scoring slack in the 2nd half as he would score 13 of his 16 points in the game during the 2nd half, including 3 triples.
Auburn trailed 47-46 with 13:48 to go before a 11-2 run including a 3 from Purifoy, a basket from T.J. Dunans and closed by 3 consecutive baskets from Ronnie Johnson.
Auburn would take their biggest lead with 6:31 left with a bucket by Mustapha Heron to put Auburn up 66-55 but the Tigers wouldn’t make another shot the rest of the game. Auburn would score their final 8 points from the free throw line and were able to hang on late for the 4-point road victory.
In addition to Harper’s 21 and Purifoy’s 16, Heron had 11 points and 7 rebounds in the victory.
Here are the highlights!
Tomorrow at #93, we’ll look back at a record breaking performance for Auburn. What record you may ask? You’ll have to come back tomorrow to find out!
