Tigers add more immediate help up front.
Talk about great timing.
Yesterday, I wrote about Auburn’s struggles to recruit blue chip prep OT talent. When seeing Auburn has gone 3 years without signing a single high school offensive tackle rated a 4* or higher, you might wonder who the heck has been playing tackle for the Tigers?. Well while Auburn has struggled to land prep OT talent, they have done a great job finding impact players on the transfer market. From Darius James, to Casey Dunn, to Jack Driscoll, Auburn has been able to fill holes made by poor prep recruiting with immediate impact players from the portal.
They are hoping to do it again with former Akron OL Brandon Council.

Council chose Auburn over offers from Baylor, LSU, Missouri, USC and others. Interestingly, Council has never visited Auburn which is why I hadn’t written anything about him up to this point. But he connected with new Auburn OL coach Jack Bicknell and wants the challenge of playing in the SEC. He will be a redshirt junior when he enrolls at Auburn meaning he will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Scouting Report
I’ll be honest, I haven’t watched much tape on Council. Like I said earlier, I hadn’t taken his interest in Auburn very seriously due to the lack of visits. But you should probably trust someone like Cole Cubelic over my amateur opinion anyway.

GOOD: Athletic. Good power. When hands land can be effective. Strong punch. Moves well in space
BAD: Lacks lower body flexibility. Doesn’t bend. Pad level poor. Feet get lazy

Versatile is the word I have seen most used when describing Council. He played both guard and tackle for Akron though the Tigers are looking at him at tackle. At a minimum, Auburn has added some much needed depth to their offensive tackle position.
Final Thoughts
Auburn will head into fall camp (assuming it happens) with five clear candidates for the two open starting offensive tackle spots in Austin Troxell, Brodarious Hamm, Kilian Zierer, Brenden Coffey and Council. Other than Zierer, any of these guys can slide inside too if needed. With there being no spring ball, all five will have an equal opportunity to win a spot. I have confidence that the Tigers can find two competent SEC starters from this group in 2020.
