So this was a fun day, a long day, but a day I sure won’t forget. I remember this day very well and I for some reason felt really confident about this game. It was just so long because the game didn’t start until almost 9PM that night and having to wait all day made me more anxious than the game itself. Earlier that Saturday, I remember Son of Crow publishing an article of the latest song he had written and sung that used the beat of “Sugar Sugar.” Ya’ll may have heard of that particular song....

The 1st Round escape against New Mexico State, I think, was the best thing to happen to this team. Bruce even said the 1st game is always the hardest to win. After their win against the Aggies, they got refocused, got some much needed and deserved rest and hammered the Jayhawks on a Saturday night in Salt Lake City. Bryce Brown’s night was a big part of the reason why.

Bryce was definitely “shooting that thing from way downtown” and was 9-13 from the field for the game, including 7-11 from 3-point range. He had 14 of Auburn’s first 25 points, including 4 3-pointers in the game’s first 7 minutes. When Bryce got in a rhythm, he was hard to stop and on this night, he was feeling it. Bryce made his first 6 shots of the game, 5 of them were 3s. He had 17 points before he missed a shot and the Jayhawks had no answer for Auburn’s 3-point barrage in the 1st half. The Tigers led 51-25 at halftime after one of their best, if not the best, played half of the season.

In the 2nd half, Kansas made their first 7 shots of the half. However, Auburn made their first 5 to keep the lead including Bryce’s 6th 3 of the ballgame. That 3 put Auburn up 66-41 but Kansas went on a 8-1 run to cut the lead to 18 with a little under 14 minutes to go. But once again, Bryce was there to hit another 3 to put Auburn back up 21, his 7th and final 3 of the ballgame. On the next defensive possession, Auburn got a steal, Bryce ran the fast break and made an awesome pass to Austin Wiley for a dunk to put Auburn back up over 20. When Kansas cut the lead to 18 again, Bryce hit another shot, this time a 2 to get to his 25 points on the night which made it a 80-60 game with 8 minutes left. While the final score was a 14 point win for Auburn, this game was all Tigers and Bryce led the way to Auburn’s first Sweet 16 appearance since 2003. I, like so many of you, am going to miss the heck out of Bryce wearing an Auburn uniform this season but never fear, we’ll get plenty of more opportunities to talk about Bryce in this countdown!

Tomorrow at #41, we enter into the realm of players who scored 26 points in a game over the past 10 years!
