Boom! Justin Powell commits to play for Auburn Basketball!

Auburn Basketball gets a commit from a player out of Kentucky and Louisville’s backyard, their 1st of the 2020 class!

On Monday, Auburn Basketball got the first commit for the Class of 2021 in Daeshun Ruffin. Today, Auburn got their first Class of 2020 commit.

Justin Powell, a 6’6”, 190-pound guard from North Oldham High School in Goshen, Kentucky, committed to play for Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers beginning in the fall of 2020. Powell is a Louisville native who played his first 2 years at Trinity High School in Louisville before transferring to Montverde Academy in Florida for his junior year. His stay in Florida was short lived and he returned to Kentucky at the end of 2018. He enrolled at North Oldham High School, where he sat out for the rest of the year due to transfer rules. Powell will be eligible to play at North Oldham this upcoming year, his senior year.

While Powell is certainly an excellent 3-point shooter, he’s also quite athletic, perfect for the type of offense Bruce Pearl runs. Powell visited Auburn last weekend as part of Big Cat Weekend which so far has resulted in a commit each for the 2020 and 2021 classes.

Justin Powell will become the first player to suit up for Auburn from the state of Kentucky since Daymeon Fishback (from Bowling Green) was a senior during the 1999-2000 season.

Powell picked Auburn over Georgia Tech, Xavier, Cincinnati, Ohio State, Kentucky and several others. Kentucky never offered Powell but seemingly, the Cats were becoming more interested in Powell here in the last few months.

Welcome to Auburn Justin and War Eagle!
