BOOM! Auburn Gets First Commitment for 2021 Class

Huge running back talent pledges his loyalty to the Tigers!

The week in Auburn athletics included a women’s golf Final Four berth and an SEC Tournament win over Tennessee in Hoover before today’s football news gave Gus Malzahn something to cheer about.

Armoni Goodwin pledged his talents to the Tigers, but Auburn will have to wait until 2021 to see him at the earliest. Goodwin’s currently ranked as the 43rd best player in the country for that recruiting class, and the second best running back in the nation as well. Standing at 5’8, 190 pounds, he’s a quick and speedy back that can escape with great top-end speed.

Does he look familiar in that video? It could just be me, but his running style reminds me of his future position coach and former Auburn tailback Cadillac Williams. Cadillac played at a larger size, but their moves are strikingly similar.

Rushing for 1,458 yards on 212 carries with 8 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2018, he earned attention from some of the biggest programs in the land due to his compact and muscular build and breakaway speed. Goodwin ran a sub-eleven-second 100-meter dash as a freshman at Hewitt-Trussville, and earned second-team 7A honors in the state of Alabama last season.

In 2021, Boobee Whitlow, Shaun Shivers, and Harold Joiner will all be upperclassmen, so there will be an opportunity for Goodwin to work himself into the heir apparent on the Plains at tailback. War Eagle!
