Boom! Tigers Snag 3-Star Linebacker Octavius Brothers!

T-WILL gets his man

Travis Williams swung for the fences this cycle. He hit a home run in 5* Owen Pappoe but then struck out on 4* Trezman Marshall, 4* Kalen Deloach and 4* Tyron Hopper. However, in the fall, the Tigers stumbled onto 3* Octavius Brothers’s tape and fell in love. He quickly became one of the top remaining targets and Auburn hosted him on an official visit in January. That OV solidified things for both sides and today, he formally announced his intentions to be an Auburn Tiger.

Once a UCF commit, Brothers was coveted by ACC programs Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Miami with the Tar Heels thought to be Auburn’s biggest competition dow the stretch. But Brothers clicked almost immediately with T-WILL and it was going to be hard for anyone else to win this recruitment.

Highlights

Scouting Report

Brothers reminds me a lot of Jamien Sherwood from last year’s class even though they are destined to play different positions. Like Sherwood, Brothers plays all over the field for his high school team and flashes wherever he lines up. He can play sideline to sideline at the next level and has the frame to grow into a middle linebacker for the Tigers if needed. I love his instincts and his ability to not only lay the wood on ball carriers but to match up with wideouts in coverage. He will have to layoff the shoulder tackles at the next level but it’s easy to see why T-WILL would want this kid.

The Class

This is a very interesting linebacker class. Owen Pappoe gives the Tigers obviously the best backer in the 2019 class. Kameron Brown will be a developmental prospect who might even shift to offense if needed. Now there’s Brothers, not highly rated but clearly possessing some big time physical gifts that make him an intriguing prospect to watch develop over the next 3-4 years. I think Auburn got a little of everything in this group and it’s gonna be fun seeing how it plays out over the coming seasons.

Barring a huge surprise, Auburn is most likely done for the day. It was an up and down day that ended on a positive note. It appears for the 2nd straight season Auburn will finish outside the top 10 in 247 Composite Team Rankings. But I expect Auburn to add at least one, maybe two more transfers to this class before it’s all said and done.

War Eagle Octavius!
