Boom! Tigers Land 4-Star Wide Receiver JJ Evans!

Tigers snag one of the top prospects in the state of Alabama.

In the 2018 season, Auburn signee 4* WR Ja’Varrius Johnson recorded 1,683 yards which was good for 2nd most in the state of Alabama. The lone man to out gain the explosive Johnson? 4* JJ Evans, who just announced on social media he plans to join Johnson at Auburn in 2020.

It’s hard to have a more impressive offer list this early in the cycle than Evans’s. Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, USC and host of others all have already offered the Montevallo standout. But he’s long been thought to be an Auburn lean and after visiting this past weekend, decided to go ahead and make things official. A huge early pickup for Auburn.

Highlights

Scouting Report

A lanky athlete at 6’2” 185 lbs, Evans is the definition of a big play waiting to happen. You don’t come 21 yards short of setting a high school record in receiving yards unless you know how to make big plays. Evans thrives not only as a deep threat but also after the catch, consistently turning short screens into 40+ yard touchdowns. His future is likely at the 9 spot in Malzahn’s offense where he will be asked to take the top of the defense ala Darius Slayton these past 2 seasons.

The Class

With 4* Kobe Hudson and Evans on board, Auburn is off to an outstanding start this cycle at the WR spot. I suspect they will try to snag one more wideout if possible given the fact they only took 2 in last year’s class. 4* WR EJ Williams and 4* WR Michael Redding appear to be the top early targets for that final spot. But either way, Auburn can feel good knowing they have these two studs on board already.

Auburn is now up to 7 commits in the 2020 class and I think there’s a very good chance that continues to grow in the coming weeks. Keep an eye on 3* OT Trey Zimmerman and 3* LB Rodney Groce. Both are very high on Auburn and the Tigers would love to lock them down early if possible.

War Eagle JJ!
