After Auburn’s 21-16 win over No. 6 Washington in the Chick-fil-a Kickoff Classic, the league recognized two Tigers with players of the week honors. Linebacker Darrell Williams was named the SEC Co-defensive Player of the Week and Nick Coe, playing the buck, was named the SEC Co-defensive Lineman of the Week.
Williams led the Tigers’defense with eight tackles including one tackle for a loss. He also recovered a fumble when the Huskies were trying to score from the 3 yard line and later prevented a touchdown when he tipped a pass intended for a wide open receiver in the back of the endzone.
Coe knocked the ball loose out of quarterback Jake Browning’s hands when the Huskies were trying to score. He led his teammates with 36 production points including four quarterback pressures and one QB knockdown.
Williams said after the game, “I feel like we did a good job. [But] we’ve just got to continue to get better.” SEC opponents need to watch out, if they do continue to get better than what we saw Saturday in Mercedes-Bens Stadium.
