Denied Again… A Travesty

Thrice Denied

Three years in a row “Legatron” Daniel Carlson has most deservedly been a Top-Three Finalist for the Lou Groza Award. This is awarded annually for the best kicker in college football.

And, for reasons very few understand, three years in a row Carlson has not been called up on the stage he has so very much earned.

What more could he have done? Someone apparently has that answer because I certainly do not.

Carlson, in his career, has made 195 extra points out of 195 attempts for 100%. Carlson made 90 field goals out of 111 attempts for 81.1%. Carlson had a total of 465 points. This ranks 5th best in the nation and the absolute Number One in the SEC.

I really think that the voters of the Lou Groza Award got this one wrong again. Now, I have absolutely nothing against the other finalists and they performed at a very high level. But, I still don’t like it.

For the record, Utah Kicker Matt Gay won the Lou Groza Award giving the PAC-12 the award three years running.

And, in the Peach Bowl, Auburn will be facing Coach-of-the-Year Scott Frost. Frost led the University of Central Florida Golden Knights to an undefeated season after going winless in 2016. The Peach Bowl will be his last game as head coach for UCF since Frost has accepted the Head Coaching job at Nebraska. Personally, I’m fine with Frost winning this. They did all they could do as a Group of Five and still couldn’t make the CFP.

I will update this later with all the awards and winners but, for now, I think I will just pout.
