JUCO Basketball Forward Malik Dunbar Commits to Auburn

Bruce Pearl adds another player to his 2017 Basketball Class

Auburn Basketball added another player tonight with JUCO Forward Malik Dunbar of College of Central Florida announcing on Twitter that he will be an Auburn Tiger.

Auburn saw a few players depart either through eligibility running out or transferring, so they had three scholarships to play with. Dunbar will take one of those. When he was in high school, his hudl profile listed him at 6'6", 220 lbs. He's originally from Spring Valley High School in Columbia, South Carolina.

Dunbar averaged 10.6 points per game in his freshman year of JUCO. It's really kind of hard to find good stats, numbers, etc for him, and JUCO recruiting in basketball is hard to get a feel for in terms of rankings, etc. Auburn has gotten a few good ones - albeit frustrating at times - over the last few years with Cinmeon Bowers and T.J. Dunans coming from the JUCO ranks.

Still, you have to like seeing things like this.

For a complete set of highlights, check the below out:

He will join a signing class of Davion Mitchell and Chuma Okeke. The class originally had Austin Wiley as a part of it, as well, but, well, Austin decided to come to Auburn early and I think we're all thankful for that!

There are still two spots left that Bruce Pearl can fill. Could he possibly fill one with 4* Garrison Brooks who was just let out of his NLI to Mississippi State? It's possible Brooks - a local Auburn High product - could end up with the Tigers, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I would look to the transfer market for a player or two if you really want to see where Bruce Pearl may turn.

Auburn Basketball will be entering a big year this fall as it really will be a time when the Tigers will look to make a push for the NCAA Tournament or else the year will be a huge disappointment. We'll see what Dunbar can add in terms of experience to the group of talented underclassmen that will likely comprise the majority of Auburn's starters next fall.

Regardless, welcome to Auburn, Malik! And War Eagle!
