The Tigers continued their winning ways with fantastic pitching performances.
Auburn Baseball's 2017 season has gotten off to a hot start, as the Tigers are currently 7-1 with only a late blown lead to George Washington last Saturday from being undefeated.
Friday: Auburn 7 - Holy Cross 0.
Keegan Thompson's return to the mound following Tommy John surgery has proven as amazing as we could have hoped. He started the fun Friday afternoon throwing 8 innings with 6 strikeouts and only allowing one hit and one walk.
Auburn scored got the scoring started early in this one with 4 runs in the first. Daniel Robert continued his on-base streak to get things started with the first RBI when Auburn opened with three straight singles. The good guys added more insurance with a run in the 6th and 2 in the 8th to reach the final score of 7-0.
Bo Decker picked up two RBIs - one in the first and one in the 6th - to lead the scoring efforts. Josh Anthony, Dylan Ingram, and Jonah Todd also added RBIs. Corey Herndon entered the game in the 9th in relief of Thompson and closed the game out for the first win.
Saturday: Auburn 4 - Holy Cross 0.
The bats weren't quite as active Saturday afternoon, but the pitching was even more dominant than Friday.
Sophomore Casey Mize started on the mound and racked up 12 strikeouts in 5 innings pitched. He allowed 4 hits and one walk. Cole Lipscomb came on in relief in the 6th inning and finished the game off with 4 strikeouts of his own while allowing only 2 hits and no walks.
Bo Decker continued where he left off Friday afternoon plating the first run on a RBI double to left field in the 1st inning. The score stayed 1-0 for a while until the Tigers added 2 runs in the 4th inning. The 4th and final run was tacked on in the 5th inning to reach the final score.
Sunday: Auburn 13 - Holy Cross 4.
Auburn allowed the first runs of the weekend early to Holy Cross in the final game of the series. The Crusaders picked up one in the 3rd and one in the 4th for the 2-0 lead. Auburn was able to get one bad thanks to an error that allowed Josh Anthony to cross the plate.
The 5th inning is where Auburn blew things open. The Tigers plated 8 runs for the 9-2 lead. One of the runs came across on a brilliantly executed sacrifice fly where the Crusaders made the wrong choice playing the pickle that allowed a second run to score. Auburn added four runs with 2 outs, including Will Holland's first home run as a Tiger with a 2-run shot to left field.
Holy Cross got one back in the 6th, but over the next two innings, Auburn added four more runs. The Crusaders picked up one more in the 9th, but it wasn't close enough to overcome Auburn's 13-run onslaught.
Will Holland led the way with 3 RBIs, but right behind him were Josh Anthony and Jay Estes with 2 each.
Auburn hits the diamond again Tuesday afternoon against Samford. First pitch is at 3 pm Central.
