Auburn Coach Gus Malzahn and three of his players received special recognition Monday after the Tigers fifth straight victory in Oxford, Mississippi.

Malzahn was selected as one of 18 coaches to be by placed on the watch list for the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year award. The award is given annually by the Bobby Dodd Foundation and the Chick-Fil-A Bowl to the coach, “with the highest ideals of leadership, scholarship and integrity on and off the field.”

The Maxwell Football Club also announced today that Defensive End Carl Lawson was named a semi-finalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award which goes to the nation’s most outstanding defensive player of the year.

Lawson has been a big reason for the Tigers’ dominating defensive line this season. Even though he’s been double teamed on almost every play, the junior has had18 tackles including 9 for loss, 21 quarterback hurries, 7 1/2 sacks, and a forced fumble. The finalist and the winner of the Award will be announced on December 8, 2016 during the Home Depot College Football Award Show.

In addition, the SEC office announced today that Kamryn Pettway and Daniel Carlson were named two of the conference’s players of the week after the Tigers 40-29 victory over Ole Miss.

Pettway was named the SEC’s Offensive Player of the Week and Carlson was named the Special Teams Player of the week.

Daniel who was a national Lou Groza Award finalist last year made four field goals Saturday and his 17 of 18 goals leads the conference. Coach Malzahn has called him one of the team leaders and “the best kicker in the country.” So far, he’s lived up to that moniker.

Pettway continues to amaze in every outing. His 156.2 yards in SEC games is the league’s best and currently ranks sixth in the nation. Kamryn’s 236 yards Saturday gives him 933 yards on the year and puts him on the cusp of being another Auburn 1,000 yard rusher.

Congratulations to Coach Malzahn and these deserving Tigers!
