Tigers get their first OL commit on board

Saturday was a tough day for the Tigers as they missed opportunity after opportunity to challenge the now #1 ranked Bulldogs. But Auburn didn’t get completely whooped by the Dawgs this weekend as yesterday 3-star OL Drew Bobo announced his intentions to be an Auburn Tiger.

Bobo had one of the stronger camp performances over the spring and summer earning offers from both Auburn and Georgia. Late in the summer it appeared the Dawgs held the edge but a trip to Big Cat Weekend seemed to change the trajectory of this recruitment. Bobo has visited AU for every home game and after visiting UGA one final time last weekend he decided he was ready to make his decision. This is a very important pickup for the Tigers.

Scouting Report

I don’t love player comps but Bobo reminds me a lot of former Auburn Tiger Austin Golson. Like Golson, Bobo is versatile athlete capable of playing all 5 spots along the offensive line. Bobo starts at left tackle on a loaded Auburn High School team but his future is likely in the interior probably at center for Will Friend’s unit. The big man also plays basketball and that shows in his foot speed on the field on Saturday nights. I think he’ll need a redshirt year to put on the muscle needed to bang in the trenches vs SEC talent and then he’ll compete for immediate playing time in 2023. I genuinely believe he has the ability to be a multi year starter in the SEC for the Tigers.

The Class

The Tigers are still dead last in the SEC due to having the fewest number of commits but they are building towards a fantastic close. While Auburn’s performance wasn’t what we had hoped on Saturday it doesn’t sound like the final score had much impact on how that star studded list of visitors view Bryan Harsin’s program. Most understand this is his first season and there is work to be done. The atmosphere was excellent and players raved about the program overall.

There’s a very good chance Bobo isn’t the last Auburn High School offensive lineman to join the class. 3-star OL Eston Harris Jr is down to Auburn and Florida with the Tigers viewed as the team to beat. 2023 OL/DL Bradyn Joiner is also high on AU and if he lands an offer would likely jump on board quickly. On top of Bobo and Harris, Auburn continues to feel good about flipping 4-star OL/DL Tae Woody. Alabama baseball commit 4-star OT Riley Quick was also at the game Saturday and is giving real consideration to playing football at the next level instead of baseball. If he decides to make that change he’ll be a Tiger. Plus Auburn offered 3-star OL Anez Cooper who could have a decision soon. There’s a very real chance Auburn’s prep 2022 OL could be comprised solely of players from the Yellowhammer State.

4-star OT Malik Agbo is also set to officially visit Auburn later this fall along with JUCO OT standouts Tyrone Webber and Percy Lewis. Needless to say things are going to be very busy on the trail for the Tigers over the coming weeks.

War Eagle Drew!
