NumerAUlogy — 24 Days

NCAA Football: Samford at Auburn
John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

One last time, for the reCord

Over the years, we’ve done different countdowns to kickoff (or tipoff). This year, we’re putting a twist on the classic “Best Auburn Player to Ever Wear Each Number” list. Football is all about lighting up the scoreboard in 2021, so let’s take a walk down memory lane and review the last time a player in each uniform number put up points.

#24 — Cord Sandberg

Game — Auburn vs Samford, November 23, 2019

I probably should have made Ryan write this one, since he was responsible for this.

The first half of this game was absolutely miserable. It was a cold, pouring rain, and it rendered both passing games even worse than they normally were. I’m known among my crew for being willing to sit through anything for Auburn football, heck I sat through every minute of the 2012 Texas A&M and Georgia games, but even I watched the second quarter from the concourse and the second half from the bar.

After a sluggish first quarter, mostly because of the rain, Auburn got better in the second quarter, then put the game away in the third. By the middle of the 3rd quarter, Cord Sandberg was running things, and he found Zach Farrar down the sideline for a score to make it 45-0. 5 minutes into the 4th quarter, Cord found Farrar again.

More from this game in the coming days!

#24 is back on a running back, as it should be. I think Jordon Ingram’s position coach is going to push him to live up to that number.

That said, it also belongs to Eric Reed Jr, so I wouldn’t rule out a defensive or special teams touchdown.
