NumerAUlogy — 16 Days

Hey, remember Blake Field?

Over the years, we’ve done different countdowns to kickoff (or tipoff). This year, we’re putting a twist on the classic “Best Auburn Player to Ever Wear Each Number” list. Football is all about lighting up the scoreboard in 2021, so let’s take a walk down memory lane and review the last time a player in each uniform number put up points.

#16 — Blake Field, QB

Game — Auburn vs Tennessee Tech, November 3, 2007

It’s 2007. How do we not have highlights of this? This is all we have:

That score in the third quarter of a more-or-less meaningless Homecoming win in 2007 made it 28-3. Tennessee Tech’s only score in this game came after Auburn took a 7-0 lead on short Ben Tate TD run. The Golden Eagles from Cookeville ran the kickoff back to Auburn’s 16, didn’t get a first down, and kicked a field goal. From there it was mostly Auburn attempting to run the ball and failing (3.2 yards per carry) and Tennessee Tech being camped in bad field position and never doing much to threaten. Their last chance to score was ended when Walt McFadden jumped a pass at the Auburn 7 and took it to the house, scoring what would be the second-longest INT return of his Auburn career.

That’s it. That’s all we got. The number worn by Greg Taylor and Dameyune Craig deserves better than this. Help us Malcolm Johnson Jr. You’re our only hope.
