Top Ranked Kicker Alex McPherson Commits to Auburn!

Tigers land their first commit in over 4 months.

The drought is finally over.

For the first time since February 25th, Auburn has a new commitment in the 2022 class. This evening, 3-star Alex McPherson committed to the Tigers.

McPherson is the top ranked kicker in the 2022 class and holds offers from Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Texas A&M. He took official visits to all those programs sans LSU over the summer. His brother attended Florida and was just drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals. However, McPherson grew up an Auburn fan and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to live out a childhood dream.

Scouting Report

I draw the line for my pretend expert opinion at kickers. Here’s a breakdown from Kohl’s Kicking which is considered the top service when it comes to ranking special teams prospects.

McPherson had a dominant showing at the 2021 Southern Showcase winning the kickoff competition. He also won Kohl’s Underclassman Challenge in multiple competitions. He separated himself from everyone else by winning multiple competitions and hitting a 65-yard field goal with ease. McPherson comes from a family of very good specialists and has multiple SEC offers. He has made long field goals throughout his high school career and has the talent and mind frame to be successful at the next level as a kicker who can punt in college. McPherson has a quiet confidence which should help him throughout his career. He will be fun to watch in the coming years!

The Class

McPherson is just the 4th addition to Auburn’s 2022 class. Because he doesn’t yet have a 247 Composite ranking he won’t change Auburn’s position in the team rankings. However, he’s without question a very important addition for the Tigers. Anders Carlson will likely join his brother in the NFL following this season. That gives McPherson a clear path to early playing time.

This is likely just the first of many commits this month. Tomorrow, two Auburn targets, 3-star CB Myles Pollard and 3-star TE Micah Riley-Ducker, will announced their commitments. Pollard is likely choosing Michigan but the buzz continues to grow that Riley-Ducker is headed to the Plains. Back to back commits this week would be a nice way to start a pivotal month for this new Auburn coaching staff.

War Eagle Alex!
