NumerAUlogy - 99 Days

Who was the last Auburn #99 to score? The 1989 A-Day MVP, of course!

Over the years, we’ve done different countdowns to kickoff (or tipoff). This year, we’re putting a twist on the classic “Best Auburn Player to Ever Wear Each Number” list. Football is all about lighting up the scoreboard in 2021, so let’s take a walk down memory lane and review the last time a player in each uniform number put up points.

#99 - Larry Young, DE/LB

Game - Vanderbilt @ Auburn, October 13, 1990

In the second half a blowout against Auburn’s fiercest SEC rival, Auburn had Vanderbilt punting yet again after just giving up a 72 yard punt return touchdown to Auburn’s Shayne Wasden.

Presumably trying their very best to get downfield and not allow Wasden a repeat performance, #99 Larry Young blew past the punt protection to both block the kick and fall on the ball in the endzone.

99 days until we kick off the Bryan Harsin era, everyone. War Eagle, and happy Memorial Day weekend!
