An Auburn legacy leaves his mark
Over the years, we’ve done different countdowns to kickoff (or tipoff). This year, we’re putting a twist on the classic “Best Auburn Player to Ever Wear Each Number” list. Football is all about lighting up the scoreboard in 2021, so let’s take a walk down memory lane and review the last time a player in each uniform number put up points.
#97 - Gary Walker Jr, DT
Game - Auburn vs. Louisiana-Monroe, 10/1/2016
Personally, I’m one of those fans that stays the entire game almost all the time. Even in a blowout against ULM or Kent State, I like seeing the younger guys and walk-ons get a chance to shine. ULM in 2016 was one of those games. Auburn scored 28 points in the 3rd quarter to turn a 28-7 halftime lead into a 56-7 romp. From there, it was just about getting playing time for the reserves. With just 31 seconds to go, ULM was backed up inside their own 5-yard-line, then they fumbled the snap...
I remember specifically that I was really excited about this, because Gary Walker Sr was one of my favorite players when I was a kid. Gary Jr would later earn a scholarship before the 2017 season, but this remained the only tackle for loss in his Auburn career.
