2022 5-star Quarterback Gunner Stockton Reopens Recruitment

A name Auburn fans should be keeping a close eye on next cycle.

Bryan Harsin is still working on finalizing his staff but there’s plenty of action happening on the recruiting trail. While the picture is still pretty unclear right now who will be top priorities for the Tigers moving forward there’s one name that’s very clearly at the top of the Tigers’ QB board: 5-star Gunner Stockton.

The 6’1” 220 lb dual threat QB out of Tiger, GA committed to South Carolina back in August. One of the big reasons being his close relationship with then offensive coordinator Mike Bobo. Following the coaching regime change in Columbia, SC, including Bobo bolting for the Plains, many wondered how long Stockton would stay committed to the Gamecocks.

Turns out not long. Today on Twitter, Stockton announced his decommitment.

Auburn is unquestionably a top contender possibly the current leader thanks to Stockton and Bobo’s close relationship.

When Gunner Stockton was nine-years old he received a photo that currently hangs on his bedroom wall from now South Carolina offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, who in the autographed picture is wearing his Georgia football uniform, signed “I hope I get to coach you one day.”

But the competition will likely be fierce. Georgia finished 2nd back in August and will most definitely attempt to win round #2. He holds offers from virtually every major program in the country so there will be plenty of suitors. You have to like though where the Tigers sit at this time. This would obviously be a huge foundational piece to Auburn’s 2022 recruiting class.
