Auburn - Mississippi State POSTPONED

WE HAD AN AGREEMENT.

HEY. HEY. THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO PLAY SOME FOOTBALL THIS WEEKEND.

GUESS NOT.

WE HAD AN AGREEMENT ON THIS.

ONE, YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE CAREFUL, FOOTBALL PLAYERS AND COACHES, WE HAD TO DEAL WITH A TIME SANS SPORTS FOR QUITE A LONG TIME, AND THIS WAS OUR SWEET, SWEET RELEASE OF FRUSTRATION AFTER THE LOCKDOWN. WE WERE SUPPOSED TO GET TO WATCH AUBURN DESTROY A FLEDGLING — FLEDGLING, I SAY — MISSISSIPPI STATE STATE THIS WEEKEND.

Instead, we get to watch everyone else play. Well, not everyone else. Alabama-LSU is also in danger of cancellation. Apparently T.J. Finley is the only quarterback available for LSU, and they have no tight ends. But back to our case.

What needs to be noted off the top is that this is in no way an indictment of Auburn. Gus Malzahn’s program hasn’t had a positive COVID-19 case since before the season began. The Tigers have been extremely careful, and the few injuries that they had were supposed to be healed with the off week ahead of this Saturday’s game. Apparently, not to be. Auburn is being punished for other programs failing to hold their players and coaches accountable.

Now, the danger for most of these college students is little. It’s pretty evident that the younger you are, the less the virus affects you. Sure, there are cases akin to the flu or a bad cold, and you do have outliers of those with pre-existing conditions and comorbidities. In the end, it’s really the possibility of the uncontrolled spread that poses the biggest threat. And while the players might be at little risk of serious illness and lasting effects, let’s note that many of the coaches in the SEC are of advanced age.

What can you do about this? It’s pretty simple.

You can’t control college kids going out to party and spreading this virus, but you can do your part. Mike Leach didn’t take this thing seriously, and it didn’t just cost his team (even though they’d probably prefer not to get their teeth kicked in by us at this point). 2020 might as well be over for them right now with the way they’re playing. LSU is in a similar situation. Probably a blessing that they may not have to give up 65 points to Alabama this Saturday night.

There were people clamoring for this man to be the head coach at Auburn. Aside from allowing his team to run wild and screw up the SEC schedule for teams being responsible, you may remember his losses (multiple) to FCS teams at Washington State, or his propensity to tweet deep fake videos and then argue with people who try to tell him that they’re doctored.

We’ll hopefully get to see Auburn and Mississippi State make this game up on December 12th, the weekend before the SEC Championship Game. In the meantime, the Tigers get an extra week to heal up before taking on Tennessee next Saturday night at home, with kickoff set for 6 pm CST.

Ugh, I thought we were all told this thing would just go away after the election. Guess it turned out to be a real thing, At least the Masters is on this weekend. No worries about conflicting interests at all. Now, you can watch all of Augusta’s fall glory instead of waiting to change the channel until Auburn throws down a first half fifty-burger on the Bulldogs. See y’all next weekend.
