Auburn Football Recruiting: A Top Tiger Target Reopens Recruitment

https://bit.ly/3o8EPuZ

One of Auburn’s most important remaining targets is back on the market.

Saturday sucked. If you have decided to ignore anything Auburn football related this week I do not blame you. But then again, you aren’t really ignoring Auburn football if you are reading this article are you?

Well since you are here, I might as well give you something that could possibly spark joy. Believe it or not there are some things going down on the recruiting trail that might actually be good for the Tigers.

Trevin Wallace Decommits

Auburn has swung and missed on all their top linebacker targets thus far. To be fair, Auburn has gone after the very best at that position. Barrett Carter chose Clemson over Auburn earlier this year while Smael Mondon popped for the Dawgs just a few weeks ago. Auburn has been out of the race for Xavian Sorey for some time so it sorta feels like this is going to be a rough class for Travis Williams.

Maybe not...

Sunday night, 4-star LB Trevin Wallace told AuburnUndercover he has decommitted from Boston College and is reevaluating his options.

This is big news for the Tigers.

Wallace missed most of his junior season with an injury and given the pandemic related shutdowns was unable to participate in any camps over the off-season. As such, he was an overlooked target by most Power 5 schools and recruiting services. Boston College saw his talent earlier than most and landed his pledge in June.

But he’s not being overlooked now. Wallace has had a monster senior year for Wayne County playing all over the field for the Yellow Jackets including linebacker, wide receiver, running back and wildcat QB. The 6’2” 220 lber was one of the highest risers in 247Sports most recent ranking updates jumping from #419 to #74.

Offers have also been pouring in over the past few weeks with Tennessee, LSU, Kentucky and Ole Miss all throwing their hats in the ring since early October. Oklahoma joined Auburn in offering Wallace earlier this year as well.

As of today, Auburn and Ole Miss appear to be the front runners. South Carolina was a threat until Will Muschamp’s ouster but keep an eye on both Georgia and Florida. They are in a heated battle with Alabama to land Sorey. Whomever loses that fight might decided to turn the heat up on Wallace and make things interesting. But for now, Auburn looks to be the team to beat.

Buck Target Decision Coming Soon?

Wallace isn’t the only important Auburn defensive target to reopen his recruitment recently. Long time Gamecock commit 3-star BUCK George Wilson backed off his pledge last week as well. Auburn has struggled to find a pass rusher in this class missing on both Jeremiah Williams and Dylan Brooks earlier this cycle but have now honed in on the Virginia native.

But like Wallace there’s still plenty of competition for Wilson’s signature. Florida State is viewed as Auburn’s top threat with North Carolina, Penn State and TCU also involved. It wouldn’t be surprising to see some more offers come in soon as well with his recruitment reopened.

However, Wilson has hinted that a decision could come as soon as this week. It would be a big win for the Tigers to go ahead and get this kid on board before the heat of early signing day arrives. The Tigers appear to be in solid positioning for their top two remaining Buck targets in Wilson and JUCO Byron Young. While it’s been a rocky road to this point, if Auburn can land Wallace, Wilson, Young and Dontae Balfour that’s a solid close to this defensive class.

War Eagle!
