Auburn has their marquee non-conference opponent for the 2020-2021 season!
2 more pieces of Auburn’s non-conference schedule have been announced over the past couple of days, including a marquee showdown in Atlanta on December 12th.
First, according to the Auburn Basketball website, Auburn’s game with South Alabama will be Friday December 4th at Auburn Arena. The game will be the final game of a 3 game series which started with the season opener of the 2018-2019 season, a 101-58 win at Auburn Arena for the Tigers. Last year in Mobile, the Jaguars gave Auburn their best shot until Isaac Okoro broke their hearts in the final seconds to give Auburn a 70-69 win.

Auburn will be part of Atlanta’s 1st Holiday Hoopsgiving as they will take on Memphis on December 12th in State Farm Arena. Auburn and Memphis fans have had their issues over the past few months in the recruiting battles of Jalen Green, Chris Moore and others so why not settle things on the court?
This will be a great event to see some other SEC teams in action as LSU, Alabama and Mississippi State will be there as well. This is a great initiative for teams looking to stay closer to home this season and it’s also great for the city of Atlanta which is rich in basketball history and tradition. With the success Auburn has had in the Atlanta area in recruiting over the past 4-5 years, it’s also a great recruiting tool for Auburn to play in Atlanta as it gives kids like Sharife Cooper a chance to play at home. Auburn will play their first regular season game in Atlanta since December 8, 2013 when they lost by 20 to Illinois in Tony Barbee’s final season.
With the addition of Memphis to the schedule, here’s an updated look at Auburn’s non-conference schedule:
11/10 - North Alabama
11/26, 11/27, 11/29 - Orlando Invitational
12/4 - South Alabama
12/12 - Memphis (Atlanta)
12/22 - Murray State
? - at Washington
I’m curious with everything going on if the Washington game will actually materialize this season but there hasn’t been an update announced regarding it yet. Assuming the Washington game is still on, that leaves 5 spots left on the non-conference schedule.
