Auburn has pulled off quite a few surprises this cycle (could have a few more coming too) but I don’t think any was as shocking as the Tigers landing 4* DE Zykeivous Walker. Sure the Tigers were always in the race but no one seemed to think, outside of Auburn’s coaching staff, that the 7th ranked SDE in the country would go anywhere other than the home state Bulldogs.

But following his official visit in early November, a quiet confidence seemed to emanate from the AU camp. Despite later official visits to Tuscaloosa and Athens, there was real belief that Walker was a guy that fit what AU had to offer. The day before the Iron Bowl he let the world know he was leaving the state and would be a Tiger. Today he made it official.

What first jumps out when watching Walker’s tape is his frame. He’s a lean 6’4” 260 lbs meaning he doesn’t carry much bad weight and has room to put on more muscle without losing his explosiveness. That could mean he one days transitions to defensive tackle but I think his future is on the outside. What also jumps out is his reach. He’s got long arms that make him a nightmare to block on the edge. I’m also very impressed with how he wins not just with his freaky athleticism but with his hands and leverage as well. One common problem you see with HS lineman is they have a tendency to play too high. Not Walker, he stays low, pops would be blockers with those powerful, long arms and drives big uglies out of the way to make a play. I will be stunned if he’s not on the field very early in his Auburn career.

War Eagle Zykeivous!
