Auburn’s longest committed recruit is officially an Auburn Tiger.

Every industry has its own vernacular. In the world of software we say things like “scrum master”, “continuous deployment” and “users are dumb”. In recruiting, we say things like “unofficial visit”, “uncommitable offer” and “commitment”. That last one tends to bring the most frustration from fans since “commitment” in recruiting ain’t what you typically see in the real world.

But there are some where the “commitment” recruiting definition and the dictionary definition do line up. For 4* WR Kobe Hudson, that is 100% the case.

Hudson committed to Auburn back at the end of April in 2018. As you can tell by that article, a lot has changed since Hudson pulled the trigger. George Pickens is losing in SEC Championship games as an UGA Bulldog and Hudson’s teammate Boykin is no longer on Auburn’s commit list. But despite the ups and downs that have happened since a year and a half ago, Hudson has remained firm with the Tigers. He said he wanted to make his decision early so he could help build a top 10 class and that is exactly what he has done.

Playmaker might be the best way to describe Hudson’s game. He broke out as a sophomore wide receiver in 2017 but after Troup Count’s stud QB graduated, he was asked to change positions and be the signal caller for the Tigers the next two years. All he did over that time was put up over 7,000 yards of offense and score 75 touchdowns.

But moving to QB undoubtedly hurt his chances of finishing in the top 50 in the 2020 class. Not that being ranked the #93 overall player in the class by 247 Composite is anything to sneeze at but by not playing the position he is expected to play in college it’s hard for scouts to truly project his ability as a wideout at the next level. He will have a chance to show what he can do at the All-American Bowl in January.

At 6’1” 186 lbs, Hudson is a gifted athlete who has outstanding burst and incredible balance. While not necessarily a burner, Hudson has that unique ability to somehow wiggle his way through traffic untouched or keep balance after a hit to pickup 10+ more yards after contact. He reminds me a lot of Terrell Zachery and it wouldn’t shock me to see him used the same way. Oh and you know Gus is gonna dial up some WR passes for him when he gets the chance.
