8 Days to Tip-Off - K.T. Harrell

oanow.com

We look back at one final game from K.T. Harrell’s Auburn career today!

I’ve gotten to write about K.T. Harrell a lot over the last several weeks and he had some phenomenal performances throughout his 2 years at Auburn. Today’s game was his best regular season outing as an Auburn Tiger! At #8, we go back to December 2013 as Harrell’s career-high 29 points was enough to beat an ACC foe.

Total Points: 29

Date: December 22, 2013

Opponent: Boston College

Final Score: Auburn 77 Boston College 67

K.T. was 10-17 from the field, 6-10 from 3-point range and 3-3 from the free throw line. After Chris Denson made a 3 to open the scoring, K.T. made 2 straight 3-pointers as Auburn jumped out to a quick 9-4 lead 2 12 minutes into the game. Harrell would connect from 3-point range with 11:06 left in the half after BC had gone on a run to take a brief lead to put Auburn back up by 1 15-14. Harrell wouldn’t score again until about 4 minutes left in the half. A jumper, followed by a 3-pointer would give Auburn a 28-22 lead with 3:46 left in the 1st half. Auburn finished the half on a 9-0 run. Harrell made a layup with 90 seconds left but contributions from others allowed Auburn to build a 37-24 halftime lead.

On the first possession of the 2nd half, K.T. would give Auburn a 16 point lead hitting his 5th 3-pointer of the game. Auburn’s lead would balloon to 20 before the Eagles went on a 7-0 run. The run ended with K.T. hitting his 6th 3 of the contest with 17:02 left to give Auburn a 47-31 lead. A jumper with 14:57 left from K.T. would give Auburn a 53-38 lead. Boston College would close the gap to 8 points with 6 minutes left but Harrell once again played the role of run stopper converting a 3-point play to put Auburn up 64-53 with 5:32 left. K.T. would cap off his career night in the scoring column making 2 free throws with 2:55 left. 8 would be the closest Boston College could get as Auburn held on for a 10 point win over the Eagles.

Tomorrow at #7, we’ll enter the final week of the countdown as well as the 30+ point games that have taken place over the last 10 years. The first 30 point game will be from a new face we haven’t featured on the countdown yet. Stay tuned for that and all of the basketball previews coming out this week.
