24 Days to Tip-Off - Frankie Sullivan

US Presswire

A career high in points for Frankie unfortunately wasn’t enough on this night in 2012.

Today, we start looking at 28 point games, and unfortunately for Auburn, there aren’t a lot of wins with guys scoring 28 points in a game over the last 10 years. Auburn players scored 28 points in a game 9 times over the last 10 years but only won 2 of those games. Today, we’ll look at the night Frankie Sullivan set a career-high in points.

Total Points: 28

Date: November 30, 2012

Opponent: DePaul

Final Score: DePaul 80 Auburn 76

Frankie was 9-17 from the field in this game, 4-7 from 3-point range and made all 6 of his free throws. He also had 5 assists and 4 rebounds to go with his 28 points.

Frankie made a layup on Auburn’s opening possession to get the scoring started for Auburn. He got a bit banged up with an injury but returned to the game after missing only about 2 minutes and would play the rest of the game. When Sullivan returned, he would score Auburn’s next 9 points on a trio of 3-pointers. The 3rd would give Auburn a 22-18 lead with 12:37 left in the first half. The Blue Demons went on a 8-0 run over the next 3 minutes but Sullivan would stop the run with a steal and assist to Allen Payne and then his 4th 3-pointer of the game. Frankie would make his last bucket of the 1st half with 7:45 left to give Auburn a 31-28 lead. He would add 4 free throws to his 1st point total and Auburn led 46-42 at halftime. Frankie scored 20 points in that 1st half.

DePaul would score the 2nd half’s first 7 points but Auburn would respond and Sullivan’s first 2nd half basket put the Tigers back in front 50-49. Frankie wouldn’t score again until midway through the half with a jumper to make it a 64-62 DePaul lead with 10:33 left. Sullivan would make 2 more free throws with 6 minutes left and his last points of the night would be Auburn’s final points of the night with a layup with 59 seconds left to make it 78-76. DePaul made 2 free throws with 13 seconds left to provide the final margin.

Tomorrow at #23, we go back to January 2014 for our next 28 point game.
