38 Days to Kickoff! - Jarrett Stidham!

NFL: New England Patriots-Minicamp Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

Future Brady checks in on a Wednesday!

As we continue our march to kickoff, we take a look at the top 100 recruits to sign with Auburn of all-time*. The rankings are based on 247’s composite recruit rankings, which unfortunately only date back to 2000.

THE RECRUIT

The guy with the perfect Texas quarterback name took quite the circuitous route not only in making it to Auburn, but making it to college football in general. Dominating in Stephenville, Texas all the way to one of the top prep quarterback rankings in the country, Stidham was originally going to head to Texas Tech to play for Kliff Kingsbury. Right after that, Art Briles put the press on him and he took an official visit to Baylor in late 2014. He decommitted from the Red Raiders and pledged to Baylor just before Christmas, enrolling early in 2015.

THE PLAYER

Baylor was in pretty good shape when Stidham arrived on campus, with Seth Russell holding onto the starting job and rolling with the Bears’ offense. Stidham got to play in mop-up duty during the first seven games of the season, during which Baylor got to 7-0 as a team. He started his first career game against Kansas State after Russell injured his neck, and threw for 419 yards with 4 total touchdowns. Unfortunately, in the next game against Oklahoma, Stidham suffered a mild injury and the Bears lost for the first time that year. He would play in one more game before being sidelined for the rest of the season. Overall he threw for 1,265 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2015 before transferring due to the sexual abuse scandal.

Stidham spent a season at McLennan CC (but didn’t play football) before announcing that he would come play at Auburn for the 2017 season. He grabbed the starting job in fall camp over Sean White and ended up having one of the best statistical seasons in Auburn football history.

In 2017, Stidham threw for the second-most yards in single-season history at Auburn (behind Dameyune Craig), and tossed 18 touchdowns. He became one of the main pieces of an offense that scored 40 points eight times, and won the SEC West, beating two top ten teams in November.

The next year, things went a little south, as offensive line and running back troubles hampered Stidham’s junior year. He still threw for more than 2,700 yards and another 18 touchdowns, but the Tigers went just 8-5. In his final game, however, he threw for 373 yards and 5 touchdowns in a 63-14 rout of Purdue.

In the 2019 NFL Draft, Stidham got selected by the New England Patriots with the 133rd overall pick.
