He can honk because he did sack Brodie.
As we continue our march to kickoff, we take a look at the top 100 recruits to sign with Auburn of all-time*. The rankings are based on 247’s composite recruit rankings, which unfortunately only date back to 2000.
THE RECRUIT
We’re diving into the way-back machine today to get the word on Wayne Dickens, a top ten defensive tackle out of Lakeland, FL from Tommy Tuberville’s third recruiting class. After a really solid campaign in prep ball, he was the top DT in the Sunshine State, and enrolled at Auburn just before the start of the 2001 season.
THE PLAYER
Dickens never really became the dominant force on a defensive line that ended up being full of studs, but he did serve a purpose as a really solid role player until he earned a starting spot in 2005. That year he finished with 37 tackles and 5.5 sacks, none more important than the opening play of the Iron Bowl.
After school, he spent some time with the Tennessee Titans, but after a short stint in Nashville, he got involved with Chette Williams back in Auburn. Dickens was named the Area Director for FCA in East Alabama, and currently serves as the Team Chaplain for Western Kentucky University.
