TWO-A-DAYS: Belated 93 Days to Kickoff! - Jovon Robinson

The running back we just couldn’t quit.

After two offensive lineman yesterday, let’s get back to a position Auburn fans love - running back. This may not be your (or anyone’s really) favorite back, though. Let’s take a look at Jovon Robinson.

THE RECRUIT

Robinson, of Wooddale HS in Memphis, was a huge get for the Tigers in the 2012 class. When he committed in the summer of 2011, Auburn was riding high off the success of last season’s national championship, and Michael Dyer had the makings of a national star at running back. But, shortly before signing day, Dyer was kicked off the team by Malzahn and staff, leaving a huge void in the program. Ontario McCalebb was going to be a senior, but outside of the speedster, the Tigers weren’t going to return any production at running back in 2012. The fit seemed perfect for Robinson, an Army All-American. At 6’0” 230 lbs, he was a steamroller ready to run through the SEC.

THE PLAYER

Welp. Despite plenty of rave reviews about Robinson, in August of 2012, his high school guidance counselor, an Auburn alum, admitted to changing Robinson’s transcript in order to help him get qualified. As goes the horror show that was 2012.

The bowling ball of a running back wouldn’t ever get to play a down at Auburn before transferring to go play at Georgia Military College, where was a sensation. In just 12 games in 2013, Robinson tallied 2387 yards and 34 touchdowns. Obviously, Robinson went on to be the #1 overall JUCO player with that performance, garnering hype as possibly the #1 OVERALL running back in the 2015 class.

Where did he go from there? Well, let’s just say you might be seeing him again on this list.
