TWO-A-DAYS: Belated 89 Days to Kickoff! - Raven Gray

I couldn’t even find a picture for this one y’all.

THE RECRUIT

The first of two internet legends we’re going to look at today, Raven Gray was a 4* defensive end originally in the 2006 signing class. Gray played his high school ball at Enterprise High School. Gray recorded 20 sacks (and 3 touchdown receptions?) between his junior and senior years of high school, and was looked at as one of the better pass rush recruits in the nation. Gray’s recruitment went down to the last month, when he finally committed to Auburn over LSU.

THE PLAYER

Raven enrolled at Auburn in the summer before the 2006 season, but never made the team. Grades rumoredly were an issue, and Gray had to transfer to Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

THE RECRUIT... AGAIN

While at Copiah-Lincoln CC in Mississippi, Gray stayed strongly committed to the Tigers, “verbally” committing again in September of 2006. Gray would stay at the JUCO for two seasons, before joining the 2008 recruiting class as one of the top JUCO prospects in the country.

THE PLAYER

Due to some injuries in the 2008 offseason, Gray had to redshirt the 2008 campaign. Gray ended up transferring again during the regime change after 2008, this time choosing to go to DII Delta State.

THE AUBURN FOUR

In 2011, Gray would pop up on Auburn fans’ radars again. Along with Stanley McClover, Chaz Ramsey, and Troy Reddick, Gray agreed to speak with HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” regarding a pay for play scheme at Auburn and in college athletics in general. I’ll restrain myself from going on a rant here, but I’m sure if you tweet @jamesjones_55 or @auchief, they’ll give you some unfiltered thoughts on the HBO show and those involved.
