TWO-A-DAYS: 74 Days to Kickoff! - Keiondre Jones

Offensive Line may be a concern going forward, but hopefully Jones will be an anchor in that group.

As we continue our march to kickoff, we take a look at the top 100 recruits to sign with Auburn of all-time*. The rankings are based on 247’s composite recruit rankings, which unfortunately only date back to 2000.

THE RECRUIT

For the second time in two days, a recruit from the 2019 class is in our rankings. Jones was considered one of the top guards in the country, and was offered by almost all of the big schools in the southeast, including Alabama, FSU, and Clemson. Auburn and Jones were not a fit early in the recruiting cycle, as then OL coach Herb Hand had his eyes on other targets, but when the Tigers brought back J.B. Grimes, he immediately made Jones a priority.

Keiondre committed to Auburn last July, and was a part of the early signing period class in December. He could very well be one of the most important recruits Auburn signed in this class, as the lack of depth in the offensive line for Auburn is well noted. Developing the big guard from Hogansville will be important to future success for the Tigers. Here’s AUNerd’s scouting report for him from last summer:

Jones is a brute. He’s a big kid at 6’4” 341 lbs with outstanding upper body strength that allows him to easily control defenders. He’s at his best when asked to fire off the ball and seal a defender either to the outside or the inside to open up a run lane. Jones though does move well for his size and had a strong showing as a pass protector in Atlanta a few weeks ago at the Rivals 5* Challenge. More than likely, he will need a year to reshape his body but he’s got the skills to find his way onto the field early in his career. Auburn has done a really good job in recent seasons identifying and developing talent at the guard position. Jones looks like a good bet to continue that tradition.

Jones will likely redshirt unless the injury bug strikes the Tigers this season, but expect him to compete for one of the open guard jobs as soon as 2020.
