BOOM! Daeshun Ruffin commits to play for Auburn Basketball!

Point Guard becomes Auburn’s 1st player committed to the 2021 class

Since Bruce Pearl arrived on the Plains, Auburn has recruited well in the state of Georgia and more recently in the state of Arkansas. Now Auburn has won a significant recruiting battle in the state of Mississippi.

On the heels of a very successful Big Cat Weekend on the Plains, the Tigers landed their 1st piece for 2021 on Monday when Daeshun Ruffin, a 5’9” point guard from Jackson, Mississippi committed to the Tigers.

The rising junior is the top player from Mississippi for 2021 and according to Rivals, he is the 7th best PG available, and the 64th best player available nationwide.

While the knock on Ruffin from most will most likely be his height, we around here know that point guards who’s height has been considered a “weakness” can do extraordinary things. Based on my early look at him, his height won’t hold him back one bit.

Ruffin averaged 26.4 points a game last year at Callaway High School in Jackson. At last week’s Nike EYBL event in Dallas, he scored 51 points in a game and earned Third Team honors, one of only 2 players to earn that honor from the 2021 class.

It’s pretty significant that Auburn was able to get him committed this early and it can only help the Tigers to have a commitment from a player with Ruffin’s ability to try and help recruit other top players to Auburn for the Class of 2021. In addition, it’s also significant for Auburn to win another recruiting battle by getting the top player in a border state onboard with Auburn.

Ruffin committed to Auburn over the likes of Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Houston and many others.

Welcome to the Auburn family Daeshun and War Eagle!
