66 Days to Kickoff! - Eli Stove

Auburn looks forward to running the Jet Sweep featuring this guy again after missing nearly all of the 2018 season!

As we continue our march to kickoff, we take a look at the top 100 recruits to sign with Auburn of all-time*. The rankings are based on 247’s composite recruit rankings, which unfortunately only date back to 2000.

THE RECRUIT

Stove came to Auburn from one of Northwest Florida’s traditional high school powerhouses: Niceville High School. At 6’1”, 178 pounds, Stove was a 4-star prospect that was ranked 124th in the country in the Class of 2016. Stove chose Auburn over a host of schools including Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State and Florida.

THE PLAYER

Stove’s collegiate career began in 2016 and he made an immediate impact as a freshman. One of my favorite individual plays from my time at Auburn happened on Auburn’s first play from scrimmage against Arkansas. It was the perfect start to a game where Auburn’s offense (and defense) was firing on all cylinders and demolished a good Arkansas team 56-3.

Stove ended his freshmen season with 23 catches, 224 yards while rushing for 131 yards on 11 carries (78 of those yards came on the 1 carry seen above). He had a 55 yard reception in his first Iron Bowl as well in a game where he recorded a career high in receiving yards with 87 yards on 4 catches.

In 2017, Stove’s role in the offense increased and became even more of a dual as a runner and a receiver. He had 30 carries, primarily in the jet sweep formation, for 315 yards and 2 TDs. He had 29 catches for 265 yards.

Stove was expected to play a big role in the 2018 offense but a Torn ACL during the spring derailed his season. He appeared in 3 games last year (Alabama State, LSU, Alabama) and made 3 catches for 17 yards. By playing in just 3 games, Stove was allowed to take a medical redshirt so he’ll go into 2019 as a Junior and ready to make an impact on the 2019 Auburn offense.

Here’s a quick breakdown of a Stove Touchdown from A-Day thrown by one of Auburn’s potential QBs, Bo Nix.

I’m looking forward to seeing how Stove’s return helps the Auburn offense and can give Auburn’s Jet Sweep offense another weapon to pair with Anthony Schwartz.
