Auburn Basketball Misses Out on Rayjon Tucker

Tucker was one of the best grad transfers available.

Some disappointing news came out late Saturday afternoon as Auburn learned that one of its primary targets to add to the 2019-2020 roster was heading elsewhere.

Rayjon Tucker, the grad transfer guard that has played at both Florida Gulf Coast and Little Rock, committed to play for Penny Hardaway and the Memphis Tigers. He has a year left of eligibility for Memphis and still has his name in the NBA Draft. Tucker visited Auburn the weekend of April 18-20 and is said to have really enjoyed his visit and that Auburn was going to be tough to beat.

Tucker averaged 20.3 points, and 6.6 rebounds in his one season at Little Rock. In addition, he was a 41.1% 3-point shooter for the Trojans last season. That last stat made him an extremely attractive option for Bruce Pearl to try and replace Bryce Brown and Jared Harper’s 3-point production. Tucker committed to Memphis over Auburn, Kansas, Iowa State and West Virginia.

Speaking of the NBA Draft, we will know by the end of May for sure whether or not either Harper or Chuma Okeke will return to Auburn next year. Okeke was invited to the NBA Combine where he will do interviews for NBA teams. As for Harper and Brown, they have been selected to attend the Elite G-League Camp. The G-League Camp begins tomorrow and runs through Tuesday. There is the potential with a good showing there that both guys may be added to the NBA Combine which is scheduled for Thursday and Friday in Chicago.
