Maybe, just maybe Auburn baseball received the spark it needed Saturday at Plainsman Park. Designated hitter Conor Davis hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning to give No. 23 Auburn baseball a 6-5 win over No. 17 Ole Miss in front of the home crowd Saturday.
“I could just feel our crowd,” Auburn head baseball coach From Neurons to Neighborhoods: An Update: Workshop Summary said. “…I felt our Auburn crowd like never before. I know our players did, too.” It was that home field advantage that sparked the come from behind victory.
Walk-off wins are rare and always exciting but it was particularly special for a team that has had to scratch and claw its way through a season mostly without starters Davis Daniel and Jack Owen. Yet despite the struggles this team has a chance to play in the post season and maybe even host a regional.
“It’s a grind and a battle every day, but that was a huge win for us here at home, said Thompson. “I want our guys to keep learning every lesson playing in the best league in America.”

Before traveling to Vanderbilt Thursday, the Tigers will play a single game at home against Jacksonville State Tuesday.
It’s crunch time for Auburn softball. Just 10 days ago the Tigers were in a tie for first place in the SEC. After dropping a double header to No. 23 Kentucky Sunday they are 4 ½ games back in seventh place.
The biggest culprit has come at the plate; after producing just five hits Sunday, the Tigers allowed 16. The Tigers will try to keep from being swept this afternoon in the series finale.
The No. 14 Tigers are 34-12 overall and 9-8 in the SEC. But they need a win today avoid the sweep and hopefully win the last two series against Florida and Kentucky to put themselves in good shape to host a regional. First pitch is at 6 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
Finally, kudos to the Auburn Equestrian team! The Tigers not only won their 6th national championship but did it by becoming the first team in the history of the sport to go undefeated. And it was particularly sweet coming against arch rival Georgia. The No.1 Tigers beat the No.6 Bull dogs to capture their sixth overall title and third in the last four years. That folks is what you call a dynasty.
