If you have ever wanted to know what it looks like for a pitching staff dominate the team in the other dugout, boy do I have three games for you to watch. The Auburn staff struck out 37 Bearcat batters over the weekend which equals out to around 47% of all outs made this weekend. The offense didn’t take the weekend off either, hanging 19 runs on Cincy even with Bearcats pitchers having good success as well.

Auburn did what they needed to do this weekend and that was get the sweep to improve to 9-2 on the season. Now they look ahead as they are now just six games between them and SEC play (and undefeated Tennessee who will probably be nationally ranked this week).
Pitching Performance of the Weekend
So I said last week that normally it would be Tanner Burns but Jack Owen got my nod. Well, Jack had a fantastic day in game 1 on Saturday, going 7+ innings giving up just 3 hits and striking out 10. When Davis Daniel returns from his strained arm, Jack Owen will settle in as a Sunday starter and maybe Saturday till Davis gets back to form.
That said, this week goes back to Tanner Burns. How could it not be? Burns faced 2 over the minimum going for a Complete Game with just 2 hits while striking out 15, which more than doubled his career high to this point. It was masterful to watch and if you didn’t get a chance to see it, here are the highlights and you should go back and watch the full game.

Batting Performance of the Weekend
Ryan Bliss could very well be a repeat winner for this spotlight. Bliss got his first home run of his Tiger career and going 4 for 11 on the weekend with 2 walks. However, this doesn’t stand up to the weekend Rankin Woley had.

He smokes his third double of the day and drives in his fourth and fifth runs. Tigers put up a four spot in the frame.

For the weekend, Woley went 6-13 but Saturday was his day. Between the 2 games, Woley went 4-9 with 2 runs scored, 5 RBI’s, a walk and 3 doubles. Have a day young man, have a day! If Woley can continue this kind of tear, it will be a huge benefit as the Tigers face better pitching staff’s in the weeks to come.
On Deck
This week will see Auburn turn the lights on 5 times at Plainsman Park. For the mid-week, Auburn plays host to the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks. Coached by former Tiger Ryan Jenkins, Martin has had a rough go of it so far this season, holding a 4-6 record but are still a scrappy team that Auburn will need to be ready for. Luckily, thanks to Burns and Owen, the pitching staff should be pretty rested with Auburn only really having to get arms in game 3 of the Cincinnati series. The teams will play two on Tuesday and Wendesday, with both games scheduled for a 4 pm first pitch.
